Electromagnetic specialists develop and supply innovative antenna solutions

7 April 2004 News

Poynting Group supplies national and international industry partners with electromagnetic engineering research and development services and products. It has four main areas of operations.

* Antenna manufacture and sales: ISM/WLAN antennas are fast becoming the industry standard in wireless LAN infrastructure. This range covers the range of 2,4 and 5,8 GHz.

The company's line of GSM/cellular antennas provides a variety of both personal and commercial functions. One of these, the CellPoynt antenna, is an external antenna that improves cellular reception drastically. This antenna is used successfully in rural areas in the whole of Africa. Another best-seller is the Multi-Band Window Antenna that covers the TDMA, GSM 900, GSM 1900, PCS 1900, UMTS 2200 frequency bands. This small antenna was designed to be inconspicuous on the windscreen of a vehicle.

Poynting also designs specialised antennas; these include antennas for underground applications, ruggedised antennas and many others.

A range of high power electronic warfare (EW) antennas in the 2 MHz to 3 GHz range and direction finding (DF) and monitoring antennas in the 20 MHz to 3 GHz range have also been designed. These can be adapted to clients' requirements.

The company also has experience in manufacturing and designing antennas for cellular dual-band applications, handheld reader units, vehicle tracking applications and more.

* Wireless system design and installation: Poynting offers turnkey wireless system solutions throughout Africa via a single professionally-managed client interface.

* Electromagnetic consulting: Antenna design and other manpower-related EM R&D projects. Poynting has been involved in this field since 1990. It has access to sophisticated computational electromagnetics software, together with state-of-the-art measurement facilities and makes use of many years of industrial experience to provide cost effective solutions and to minimise customer risk.

* Antenna software: This includes the SuperNEC antenna simulation program and other products for airborne radio communications.

The company currently employs over a 100 people and is housed in a 2200 m2 building and factory in Wynberg, Johannesburg.
