New dedicated low resistance meter introduced

11 February 2004 Test & Measurement

A dedicated low resistance meter, Quad Tech's LR2000 Milliohmmeter for making low resistance measurements on switches, relays, connectors and cables, has eight measurement ranges, starting at 1 µ resolution to 2 M, with constant current between 1 A and 1 µA. For 'dry' contact measurements the LR2000 can be limited to 20 mV on selected measurement ranges.

The LR2000 comes standard with an RS232 interface for remote operation and production applications; IEEE-488 and handler interfaces are also available as options. For measurement integrity, contact to the test device is made via a 4-terminal Kelvin connection that incorporates an automatic zeroing function to compensate for lead errors.

With a wide measurement range there are eight measurement ranges extending from 20 mΩ to 2 MΩ (constant current between 1 A and 1 µA). For 'dry' contact measurements (contacts whose resistance can be altered by excessive voltage potential) the LR2000 can be limited to 20 mV on selected measurement ranges.

Besides the standard DC test signal, the LR2000 provides a signal reversal mode for eliminating thermal EMFs, and a pulsed current mode for minimising errors caused by device heating. With a basic measurement accuracy of 0,05% the instrument has three measure modes: 15, 6 and 1,5 measurements per second with varying degrees of accuracy. The graphical display is a 240 x 64 dot matrix graphical LCD for user-friendly menu programming and results display. An automatic zeroing function reduces the effects of lead resistance through the front panel 4-terminal Kelvin connection.

In addition there is a programmable Hi/Lo comparator function (Pass/Fail Testing) in 'absolute value' or '%', as well as eight sorting bins for categorisation of components. For remote control, or adaptation to a production type environment, the LR2000 includes an RS232 interface standard. An IEEE-488 and handler interface are available as an option.
