Installation of calibration equipment at Eskom laboratory a first
5 November 2003
News
Eskom's Brackenfell (Western Cape) Calibration Laboratory has included the Fluke 8508A Reference Multimeter into its range of calibration equipment in the Electricity Delivery Field Services Laboratory. This represents the first commercial installation by Spescom MeasureGraph of this award-winning product from Fluke into industry.
Eskom's SANAS Accredited Laboratory, headed up by Metrologist, Cecil Matthee, calibrates equipment primarily for the Koeberg and Eskom installations in the Western Cape. The laboratory, the only high-level lab in the Western Cape region, also calibrates equipment for PetroSA, SomChem, various local municipalities as well as Telkom and Tellumat as an added service to industry. The facility is able to test and calibrate equipment from the lowest handheld multimeter through to the very high-end equipment.
Matthee says of the acquisition, "Currently, the 8508A is the only instrument on the market with the capabilities that this laboratory specifically requires. That is: accuracy together with functionality; temperature read-out; dual input ratio mode; the ability to measure 20 A directly, and best of all, it is fast - after all, time is money!"
The 8508A was recently voted Test Product of the Year by the readers of Test & Measure World because of its ablility to calibrate every function of a multifunction calibrator in a single box, giving the user the ability to replace as many as eight calibration instruments with this single, powerful multimeter.
"Spescom has an excellent track record with Eskom. Over the past 10 years, we have come to rely on their expertise and service, and this made it an easy acquisition for us," commented Matthee.
