Maxim's MAX6846-MAX6849 are adjustable single-/dual-level battery monitors combined with independent microprocessor supervisory reset circuits. These devices monitor single lithium-ion (Li+) cell or multicell NiMH/NiCd/alkaline applications. The MAX6846-MAX6849 consume only 2,5 µA of supply current, making them ideal for portable handheld applications.
In typical systems, the low-battery output (LBO) asserts and disconnects the load from the system when the battery voltage falls below its threshold. The battery voltage often recovers and reconnects the load, only to cause the LBO to reassert and cause chatter. These devices eliminate chattering by providing internal hysteresis. The MAX6846-MAX6849 have user-adjustable thresholds for setting the voltage-trip thresholds. All devices have a low-battery output that can be used to shut the system off when the battery is dead. The MAX6848/9 have an additional low-battery output that can provide an early low-battery warning, allowing the system to enter a low-power mode or to back up critical data into memory. All low-battery outputs have active-low, open-drain configurations.
The MAX6846-MAX6849 also feature an independent microprocessor supervisory circuit that monitors system voltages from 1,8 to 3,3 V. Seven factory-trimmed reset thresholds are available with two reset timeout options of 150 ms or 1200 ms (min). The MAX6846/8 have an active-low, open-drain reset, and the MAX6847/9 have an active-low, push-pull reset output. The MAX6846/7 also have a one-shot manual-reset input.
The devices are available in 8-pin SOT23 packages and are fully specified from -40°C to +85°C.
