Small ±1°C accurate temperature sensor

Maxim has introduced a two-channel digital temperature sensor that measures the temperature of a remote PN junction to within ±1°C and its own die to within ±2°C. The MAX6642 is packaged in a 6-pin, leadless, 3 x 3 mm, thin QFN that occupies the same footprint as a standard SOT23. Operating on a 3 to 5,5 V supply voltage range, it features a single over-temperature alarm and operates through an SMBus-compatible, 2-wire interface. The MAX6642 comes in eight factory-preset versions, occupying different addresses on the SMBus to prevent conflicts in multiprocessor-based systems. The MAX6642 SMBus interface accepts standard system management write byte, read byte, send byte, and receive byte commands to read the temperature data and to program the alarm threshold. The data format is two's complement, 10 bits plus sign, with each LSB corresponding to 0,125°C. Measurements are completed autonomously, with the conversion rate programmed by the user or in a single-shot mode.
