Open frame DC-DC converters

7 May 2003 Power Electronics / Power Management

Cosel has launched four new open-frame (with no heatsink), isolated, DC-DC converters suitable for computer and communication equipment applications. The CES, CQS, CQB and SFS Series DC-DC power modules are eighth-brick (CES) and quarter-brick (CQS and CQB) converters.

The CES and CQS Series are single-output type converters of 1,8, 2,5 and 3,3 V with an output power range of 54 W to 148,5 W.

The CQB Series is a quarter-brick converter with dual outputs of 1,8 V (17 A) and 3,3 V (15 A) (total power 80 W). The new power modules feature a high efficiency of 92,5% for the CQS Series at 3,3 V, and a high density of 7,32 W/cm3 for the CES Series, and 8,18 W/cm3 for the CQS Series. In addition, the wide operation temperature range of -40 to +85°C and high reliability make the converters are suitable for telecommunications applications.

The SFS Series is another small-size converter with a small footprint and a low-profile, measuring only 39,9 x 5 x 27,2 mm for the SFS10/SFS15 (10 W/15 W), and only 39,9 x 8 x 31,2 mm for the SFS30 (30 W). The series can deliver 1,2-15 V output voltage and can operate in a wide operating temperature range between -40 and +85°C.
