Low-jitter, SAW-based oscillator

Vectron International has introduced an ultra-small, low-jitter, surface acoustic wave (SAW) voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for use in telecommunication and industrial applications. The VS-700 is a SAW-stablised VCO that operates at the fundamental frequency of the internal SAW filter. This filter is a high-stability, high-Q quartz device that enables the circuit to achieve low phase jitter performance (less than 0,5 ps across 50 kHz to 80 MHz) over a wide operating temperature range.

Features include output frequencies from 500 to 850 MHz and 3,3 V operation. The oscillator is housed in a hermetically sealed, leadless surface mount package measuring only 5,0 x 7,5 x 2,5 mm.

The devices are ideal for clock smoothing, frequency translation and clock and data retiming applications.
