Trinity launches telemetry monitoring platform

14 April 2010 News

Trinity Telecomm’s recent roadshow, featuring seminars in Cape Town and Johannesburg, saw the launch of the SMART Monitor platform, a new wireless platform for monitoring telemetry devices, developed by Trinity and powered by Sierra Wireless’ AirVantage. The roadshow drew many of the leading lights from amongst the cellular service providers, who might well be the first deployers of the solution for the local telemetry market.

William Hardie, Trinity’s MD, stated in his presentation: “Our goal is to provide a robust, reliable and efficient telemetry solution to help enable corporates, SMEs and consumers with the ability to remotely communicate with mission critical assets, machines or devices – real-time and online.” According to Hardie, Trinity identified a need in the industry for a unified management layer that could manage all the disparate wireless devices now in the field. The SMART Monitor platform is the result, and will enable customers to manage its devices at a small cost per device per month. The capital outlay has already been provided by Trinity which has spent a year in the development of the platform, and is now offering the solution based on the ‘software as a service’ (SAAS) model.

Says Hardie: “The SMART Monitor solution has been designed as an industry standard management layer that can provide the client with an integrated overview of all its wireless devices, independent of product manufacturer, type of device or communication medium, and all in real-time via a web-based interface.”

The international guest speaker, Emmanuel Walckenaer, (Sierra Wireless senior vice president and general manager, AirVantage business unit France) supported the work that Trinity has done in developing the SMART Monitor platform. Although powered by the AirVantage core, the solution is manufacturer agnostic, and can accommodate a wide range of wireless devices from other manufacturers, as well as the full range of Sierra Wireless devices, as presented by Dominique Friedl, South African country manager for Sierra.

According to Martin Weiss, Trinity technical director, the SMART Monitor platform has been designed to become the telemetry platform of choice in SA for enterprise as well as developers. In the long term, Trinity will continuously enhance and simplify the telemetry process for developers by creating tools and services on the platform, and will provide reference code, assistance, training and forums to the South Africa development community.

Demonstrations of the SMART Monitor platform at the roadshow presented the extensive security features which ensure that the data per device, and per client, are safe and secure at all times. The audience also saw demonstrations of features such as the easy integration tools for customers to be able to integrate the information from the platform into their existing systems, as well as powerful debugging capabilities (SPYGLASS), and rapid web interface tools such as DASH and BALCONY.
