Siemens Wireless Modules becomes Cinterion

25 June 2008 News

Cinterion Wireless Modules is the new, independent company that has emerged from Siemens’ Wireless Modules business. The highly successful Siemens division, which specialises in producing wireless communications modules for use in the M2M (machine to machine) sector, was taken over by a group of investors led by the private equity firm Granville Baird on 1 June as part of a buyout.

Supported by its new industry-experienced owners, including the T-Mobile Venture Fund and the management, Cinterion will continue its growth strategy and drive its contributions of innovation, high quality, reliability and direct global customer touch.

Says Norbert Muhrer, CEO of Cinterion: “Thanks to our new independence, we will now add two more strong points that are of crucial importance for the business: flexibility and speed. And that is on top of our traditional strengths, such as an innovative portfolio, a farsighted road map, and first-class international customer support.”

In South Africa, Cinterion has a 13 member team focused on providing sales and technical support services. The team includes five specialised development engineers providing complete solutions to clients around the world.

Brian Scott, the head of Cinterion Wireless Modules SA says, “We are very excited about the new company. Being an independent organisation focused on our core business will enable us to be even more competitive in this market. I am optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing the success story of Cinterion Wireless Modules in SA.”

Cinterion will be focusing further on new vertical and regional markets, on launching new technologies in the 3,5G and 4G arena, and on intensifying its solutions business, known as M2M One. The company has taken on the entire management team and over 400 employees. Its headquarters are located in Munich, Germany, while its team of developers will continue to be based in Berlin and Poland.
