EBV supports SA-UK school exchange
6 February 2008
News
Recently, a group of pupils from Greendown held their first meeting with their partner school in South Africa.
Twenty soccer balls were enthusiastically received by Moriting Wa Thuto's principal, Mr Ramoji - enough to allow all members of the school's soccer team to practise their skills at the same time. Twenty more balls were given to another primary and secondary school in the neighbourhood. The support package, which was kindly sponsored by EBV, also included fleece pullovers, lunch boxes and pens.
During the two-week exchange, students from both schools learned that there is no better way to get to know other people than by meeting them face-to-face. By visiting National Parks, Cultural Villages and actually spending time at the local school attending normal classes for a week, Greendown students could see beyond the stereotypes of Africa and Africans and see for themselves what life is really like for young people living in a township. A reciprocal visit of the South African school back to the UK is planned - so the intercultural classmates will not need to wait too long for a reunion.
