EMS (electronic manufacturing services) are no longer purely order finishers serving OEMs (original equipment manufacturers); indeed, this has not been the case for quite some time now.
They have developed into full service providers with comprehensive services, to become indispensable partners of large electronics manufacturers. The performance range of EMS suppliers is no longer limited to design and development as well as production itself, but instead also covers the areas of product tests, supply chain management, logistics and distribution as well as after-sales services, ie, the complete value-added chain of electronic components or ready-to-use electronic products.
This trend has resulted in sustained double digit growth rates in the EMS market. Sales in the European market alone increased from $21,4 billion in 2005 to $25,1 billion in 2006, with market research company iSuppli predicting a disproportionate increase to $33 billion in 2007, corresponding to annual growth of approximately 11,5%. The increasing demand for EMS in the automotive, medical and industrial electronics industries is providing momentum for this sustained boom.
Productronica 2007, taking place in Munich from 13 to 16 November 2007, plays an important role as a leading international trade fair for electronic manufacturing and as a link between OEMs and CEMs (contract electronic manufacturer), EMS suppliers and system suppliers. 'EMS Village' in Hall A6 of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre has a good strategic position within the other exhibition areas for placement technologies, production logistics and material flow engineering and serves as an information and communication platform for the EMS industry and its customers. The number of exhibitors there has increased by 25% compared to last year.
The economic and technological trends in the area of electronic manufacturing services will also be hot discussion topics at Productronica 2007. At the 'Productronica Forum', which will also be in Hall A6, specialists from industry and research will speak about these and related topics and answer questions from the audience.
