The Water Angel was recently awarded the Most Promising Emerging Technology Top 100 Enterprise for 2006 by the Da Vinci Institute, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology.
The Technology Top 100 awards are part of an initiative between private and public enterprise to encourage innovation and technology development in South Africa. Initiated by the Da Vinci Institute and supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Eskom and the JSE Alternative Exchange, the awards showcase local technology and innovation and are aimed at making South Africa globally competitive.
The 'Emerging Technology Top 100' category is for companies classified as emerging companies in the process of taking their product to market. It is that vital juncture where the proverbial 'takkie' hits the turf, and technological innovations are tested in terms of market demands.
"We are delighted to have been awarded the Most Promising Emerging Technology Top 100 award. The Da Vinci Institute is internationally-recognised as a leader in technology and innovation and therefore this award affirms our belief that the Water Angel will dramatically impact the plumbing and electrical world," says CEO Hennie Stander.
The Water Angel was officially launched in October 2006 and is designed to prevent geyser leaks, bursts and explosions by shutting off the water and power supply and sounding an alarm should the device detect even the smallest leak or deviation in temperature. The device is expected to save the insurance industry millions in claims as a result of damage caused by geysers and water damage. Water Angel is in negotiations with major insurance and banking organisations and already boasts with fully trained Water Angel installers in the plumbing and electrical environments.
