Yamaha Distributors now offers full product range

22 February 2006 News

The team at Yamaha Distributors SA (YDSA) has reached an important milestone: it is now the only Yamaha distributor in the world to offer Yamaha’s full range of products.

To complement Yamaha's extensive range, the company has recently concluded an agreement for the distribution rights to Yamaha's Intelligent Machinery (IM) product range.

YDSA's foray into the lucrative world of IM was accomplished through McCarthy's acquisition of Hawker Richardson, a company that has been selling 'products for productivity' for a number of years.

According to Chris Serafini, who heads up Hawker Richardson, the company has the exclusive South African distribution rights to a range of top brands in the IM field. These include Yamaha products, as well as an extensive and important range of peripheral products.

The cutting-edge Yamaha products include various pick-and-place machines and a number of robots, including the Cartesian, the SCARA robot and the Vertical multijoint robot.

"Robotics is an exciting growth area and one we will focus on quite extensively," comments Serafini.

The range of peripheral products include that from Apollo Seiko (soldering robots), Heller (reflow ovens used in the manufacture of circuit boards), Indium (solder paste and speciality alloys), Nutek (automation conveyors), Vision Eng. (inspection systems), OmronM (automatic optical inspection), and Essemtec (surface mount technology), to name but a few.

McCarthy notes that it is proud of its long association with Yamaha and has always had the objective, through YDSA, of being the sole custodian of the Yamaha brand in South Africa. The Yamaha product range is already very diverse, ranging from highly refined hand-made musical instruments to the very latest designs in motorcycles - all with one common thread, the legendary Yamaha quality and advanced engineering.

"Adding IM to its product mix allows YDSA to further enhance its relationship with Yamaha, while providing Hawker Richardson with added financial muscle, management expertise and access to potential markets through group companies," says Ian Pears, Yamaha Distributors' MD.
