The PROFIBUS Competence Centre (PCC) of South Africa has worked closely with Seelan Venketraju, control and automation training specialist at the South African Breweries' Kyalami Training Centre, to develop a comprehensive training programme that integrates Profibus and ASi industrial network technologies into a single, cost-effective course for technical personnel.
Venketraju said he embarked on this programme in response to a skills need at SAB for a practical course that would prepare technical staff for the challenges faced when installing and maintaining production systems that make use of these technologies.
The course provides a balance of technical background for successful installation, troubleshooting and interoperation of Profibus and ASi networks as well as important hands-on experience. The first two instances of this two-day course were run at SAB's Training Centre from 15 to 18 March and, based on attendee feedback, was recognised as highly beneficial for all technical personnel interacting with Profibus and ASi.
The course will be run at various other SABMiller sites in the future, and being made available to any industrial customer whose plants make synergistic use of Profibus and ASi technologies.
