Gauteng set to become world-class IT destination
19 June 2002
News
Gauteng, named last year in the World Economic Forum's Report as one of the top 64 innovation hubs in the world, was recently represented by GEDA (Gauteng Economic Development Agency) at the Internet World Spring 2002 exhibition in Los Angeles.
Internet World Spring 2002, held at the end of April, is the world's largest e-business and Internet technology event held annually and offered GEDA the opportunity to explore new business avenues in the IT sector and liase with top level industry players.
According to the agency, development of the IT industry in Gauteng is paramount, with an estimated 80-85% of SA's IT industry based in this area. Internet World Spring 2002 allowed Gauteng to probe stronger ties with innovative companies in the US and beyond and was seen as greatly beneficial, with a number of viable leads having been established. A number of international bodies have expressed mutual interest in exploring IT investment opportunities in Gauteng, billed as SA's 'smart province', said GEDA.
