Avnet Kopp and Mantech sign distribution agreement

23 May 2001 News

Albert Kopp, CEO of Avnet Kopp and Manny Moutinho, CEO of Mantech, have signed a sub-distribution agreement where Mantech will take over all smaller value accounts presently handled by Avnet Kopp. In return, Mantech will use its consolidated purchasing power to purchase components from Avnet Kopp to service these and other Mantech Electronics customers.

In an interview, Albert Kopp stated: "In our dealings with our customers, we endeavour to add as much value as possible to our transactions. We have a large number of smaller accounts who purchase from us small volumes and on an irregular basis. We know that there is not much value we can add to these accounts and it does in fact detract from our service ability to our larger accounts. Mantech, on the other hand, specialises in handling these accounts". Manny Moutinho added: "We have four branch offices throughout South Africa, all offering inventory on an ex-stock basis. Presently, we stock over 20 000 line items.

"In addition, we have the ability to program memory chips for our customers, often while they wait".

Besides purchasing required components from Avnet Kopp, Mantech will increase its inventory spread to include Philips' commodity items. Moutinho added: "Philips is such a well established line and the part numbers are almost an industry standard. I believe it will be of benefit to our customers if we are in a position to offer them a range of popular and industry standard Philips parts ex-stock". Kopp said: "This is just the beginning of a relationship we have with Mantech and we foresee that with time Mantech could further increase its inventory offering on other industry leading manufacturers."

Both companies will work hard to build up an excellent working relationship between their sales teams and Avnet Kopp will send its field application engineers to Mantech to conduct training sessions in all four centres where Mantech operates.
