25 April 2001
News
Trade between Thailand and South Africa in the electronics industry has seen significant growth in recent years, with total exports to South Africa of electrical equipment and parts reaching $10,2 million in 2000 - an amount which is $4,3 million higher than in 1999.
'The land of diversity and refinement' - as Thailand is known is producing high quality and competitively priced electronic items and components destined for global markets. South African importers, buyers and businesses in the electronics sector will have the opportunity to explore what Thailand has to offer at the first multisectoral trade exhibition of its kind in southern Africa to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from 9-11 May 2001.
Thailand's electronics industry is rapidly expanding as increased emphasis is placed on the research and development of new and improved products, and 'Made in Thailand' electronic products are recognised by the ISO 9002 international certification procedure. Computer and IC producers have become a prime export category in Thailand. Exports of automatic data processing machines and parts to South Africa in 2000 totalled US$10,7 million.
The Thailand Exhibition 2001 is an important platform for furthering trade relations between Thailand and South and southern Africa. The exhibition is organised by the Department of Export Promotion - Ministry of Commerce in cooperation with the Office of Commercial Affairs - Royal Thai Embassy.
