SMD power inductors for high voltages

9 November 2016 Passive Components

Fastron recently added several models of SMD power inductors for high-voltage applications. The new HV models are designed to resist operating voltages up to 400 V d.c. and have the ability to withstand much higher short-term voltage spikes. Due to the low resistance, the choke provides minimal self-heating and therefore adds minimal heat to the application.

The PISMHV, PISNHV and brand new PISPHV share the same baseplate size of 9,55 x 13,0 mm. For higher current requirements, Fastron offers the PISTHV with a base size of 15,2 x 18,7 mm. Similar to the standard (non HV) models the PISMHV, PISPHV, PISNHV and PISTHV series are applicable in high-temperature environments and special applications where high resilience is necessary.

The PISMHV comes in inductances up to 2,2 mH, current up to 3,32 A and a height of 5,35 mm; the PISPHV in inductances up to 10 mH, current up to 3,15 A and a height of 8,0 mm; the PISNHV in inductances up to 10 mH, current up to 3,27 A and a height of 11,5 mm; and the PISTHV in inductances up to 10mH, current up to 4,9 A and a height of 12,0 mm.

Primary applications for the new HV inductors are power supplies, filters and noise suppression. They are suitable for lead-free soldering and conform to RoHS.
