Monolithic Power Systems has released two new synchronous step-down converters boasting low quiescent current and a wide 4,5 V to 26 V d.c. input range.
The MP8756 is a high-frequency, rectified, switch-mode converter offering a very compact (QFN-12, 2 x 3 mm package) solution that achieves 6 A of continuous output current with excellent load and line regulation. Similarly, the MP8759 achieves 8 A of continuous output current and 10 A peak output current.
Both devices operate with high efficiency over a wide output-current load range based on a proprietary switching loss reduction technique and internal low RDS(ON) power MOSFETs. Adaptive constant-on-time (COT) control mode provides fast transient response and eases loop stabilisation, while the DC auto-tune loop provides good load and line regulation.
Full protection features include over-current limit, over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage protection (UVP) and thermal shutdown.
