Renesas recently released the new RL78/I1B group of 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) designed for metrology applications such as electricity monitoring and metering.
The devices feature a high-precision, 24-bit delta sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) capable of delivering 3,6 KSps (up to 4 channels) and accuracy within 1%. Other features that make the RL78/I1B range an ideal single-chip solution for metering include an LCD/TFT display driver peripheral, programmable gain amplifiers with 32x gain, 128 Kb code space, 8 Kb RAM, real-time clock/calendar and an additional 10-bit SAR ADC.
Renesas also offers an off-the-shelf evaluation electricity monitor (pictured), with full support available for IAR and E2Studio.
