Open-source development board

24 February 2016 Computer/Embedded Technology

Banana Pi is an open-source hardware and software tool, engineered for those who want to play in a garage with electronics, robots and automation, while at the same time being fun and useful with Linux or Android operating systems.

The latest release is the BPI-M3 with an octal-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. Complementing its processing power are features such as Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, one OTG micro USB port, SATA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI connection.

The board is capable of running full versions of Ubuntu, Debian, Raspberry Pi Image or Android operating systems. A powerful A83T ARM Cortex-A7 octal-core processor, with 512 KB L1 and 1 MB L2 caches, handle the job of running the most dominant operating systems in the makers community.

The range of peripheral equipment that can interface to the Banana Pi includes a touch screen, camera module, Wi-Fi dongles, enclosures, power adaptors and many more.
