Automated optical cable certifier

25 February 2015 Test & Measurement

Newly released as part of EXFO’s OTDR-based iOLM software suite is iCERT, an accurate fibre certification tool meeting the latest industry standards (including TIA and ISO). iCERT is available for both single-mode and multimode fibre testing, and comes with a set of pre-defined test configurations providing quick access to the latest industry pass/fail thresholds to automatically certify cable installations in data centres and enterprise.

This solution greatly simplifies optical link assessment and troubleshooting while avoiding any risk of getting tampered results due to manual entering of the wrong pass/fail values or misinterpreting extensive, complex standards documents.

iOLM is an intelligent optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR)-based application that removes the need to set parameters and analyse multiple complex OTDR traces. It dynamically defines all test parameters and selects the optimum number of acquisitions required to deliver better accuracy.

The result is a clear assessment of any fibre with a detailed diagnosis on failed components, as well as a professional test report generated directly, with no need for post-processing. iOLM provides accurate insertion loss, optical return loss and fibre length measurements, at the touch of a single button. Additionally, it will clearly identify faults and potential problems that can be fixed right away.
