Power supplies for LED lighting

8 October 2014 Power Electronics / Power Management

With the continual worldwide movement towards ‘green’ product concepts, the demand for LED applications is ramping up in the lighting fields, owing to their energy efficiency.

Mean Well has extended its range of power supplies for these requirements to 150 W with the new LPV-150 series of constant-voltage switching units.

The units accept 180 – 305 V a.c. input and provide 12 V, 15 V, 24 V, 36 V and 48 V outputs. They are class II (no FG) devices housed in 94V-0 flame retardant plastic cases. Their lack of active power factor correction allows their cost to be kept low.

The LPV-150 series adopts IP67 protection, sufficiently preventing the internal electrical components from damage due to dust and moisture. The interior is fully potted with heat conducting silicone, effectively enhancing the heat dissipation capability; moreover, with efficiency up to 90%, the entire series can operate under -25°C to +65°C using free air convection alone.

The input and output ends are paired with #18 AWGx2C and #14 AWGx2C wires that facilitate assembly in various types of system or operating environment. Other functions cover short circuit protection, overload protection, over-voltage protection and the over-temperature protection.
