Power supplies for medical systems

14 November 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

In response to the demands for high reliability placed on power supplies in the medical market, Mean Well has developed the MSP-100 and MSP-200 families of AC-DC, enclosed type units. The 100 W and 200 W product series comply with international medical safety regulations (MOOP level) and EMI Class B level.

Featuring low leakage current (≤300 μA for the MSP-100, (≤450 μA for the MSP-200), low no-load power consumption (<0,5 W), 1U profile (38 mm) and a 5-year warranty, these new models can fulfil the high quality demands of medical applications and are good power solutions for non-patient contact applications.

With efficiency up to 90% for the MSP-100 (up to 89% for the MSP-200), the power supplies can be cooled by free air convection at +40°C ambient temperature under full load condition, and at up to +60°C (+70°C for the MSP-200) by employing appropriate derating.

The power supplies incorporate 300 V a.c. input surge immunity for 5 seconds, which can reduce the damage caused by unstable AC mains. Standard functions include built-in remote ON/OFF control and protection against short circuit, overload (constant current mode), over-voltage and over-temperature (optional).
