Test system for RF and communications training

31 October 2012 Test & Measurement

GW Instek’s GSP-730 is a 3 GHz spectrum analyser developed mainly to fulfil the demands of RF communication in educational environments and training centres in military and private companies.

It includes all essential functions required in a mid-range spectrum analyser, along with the GRF-1300 training kit which provides an affordable turnkey solution for 3 GHz RF communication experimentation.

A GSP-730 spectrum analyser, GRF-1300 trainer and a PC can be connected to create a system for performing ongoing experiments while a lecture is given. Using a PC, the instructor can present teaching material and simultaneously control the GSP-730 and GRF-1300 to perform experiments and get spectrum displays and parameter readings on the PC screen.

With features like autoset, split window, limit line, ACPR, OCBW and more, the spectrum analyser is suitable for testing of GSM, 3G, 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, ZigBee and RFID systems. It includes USB ports, an RS-232 interface and VGA video output.

As an optional accessory to the GSP-730, the GRF-1300 is a trainer for basic RF communication experiments. It is able to generate a baseband signal and an RF carrier signal for built-in AM and FM communication operations.

The baseband signal output provides sine, triangle and square waveforms in the frequency range of 100 kHz to 3 MHz, whereas the RF signal output is a frequency-variable sine wave in the 870–920 MHz range.
