The latest LED lighting reference design from Power Integrations, DER-327, describes a non-isolated (tapped buck) power supply capable of providing a single, 7,5 W dimmable constant-current output. DER-327 easily meets the very tight size limits of the PAR-16 form factor, and does so with one single-sided printed circuit board.
Based on the LNK458KG IC from Power Integrations’ efficient LinkSwitch-PL family of devices – which have a high power factor of over 0,95, meeting all current international requirements – the circuit operates over the high-line AC input voltage range (190 V to 265 V a.c., 47 Hz to 63 Hz).
The design provides a single-stage, power factor corrected and accurate constant current (CC) output at low cost, with a low component count and small PCB footprint. At less than 50 ms, startup delay is imperceptible. DER-327 provides less than 25% ATHD at 230 V a.c. and meets IEC 2,5 kV ring wave, 500 V differential line surge and EN55015 conducted EMI ratings.
