Rework platforms

17 October 2012 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

VJ Electronix recently exhibited its award-winning SRT Micra rework platform and production-ready 400R series at the SMT/Hybrid/Packaging exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany.

The SRT Micra is a benchtop platform specifically designed for the rework of small form-factor products, accommodating the latest high-density electronic designs and devices such as smartphones, tablets, GPS and other portable products.

The new SierraMate V9 software simplifies process definition and assures consistent, repeatable results between facilities and even continents. The systems’ heaters and machine controls provide high throughput and performance, regardless of typical variations in utilities, such as electrical power.

The Micra offers a newly-developed, automated process setup tool and virtual process engineer that minimises rework setup and profiling times. The system’s inherent accuracy and fixed-position core (head) easily accommodate new micro-electronic packages, including 01005 micro-passives and 0,3 mm pitch area array devices.

The SRT Micra delivers optimised micro-scavenging, automated removal of residual solder of tightly spaced micro-passives, PoP layers, asymmetrical RF shield patterns and micro BGA sub-millimetre lands and pitches.

Also on display was the 400R semi-automatic rework system, a high-value flexible machine with a small footprint. It is designed to rework BGA, BGA and other SMT assemblies. The robust X/Y gantry system provides a highly stable platform.

The 400R utilises cost-effective technology to meet production needs. The X and Y slides allow for repeatable and fast positioning while allowing the target assembly to remain stationary. The integrated automatic Z motion and high-resolution vision system provides precise positioning of components.

The machine’s advanced profiling software allows fast automatic profile generation for lead-free and Sn/Pb devices. Teach mode enables users to customise and characterise profiles as needed. The high-density IR bottom heater provides precise, uniform temperature across the entire board surface.

Programmable gas flow through the top heater allows the user to tune thermal profiles. The control system features an easy-to-use graphical user interface with rugged industrial I/O modules and Ethernet connectivity. A performance PC with Windows is integrated for unlimited recipe storage and advanced, automatic profiling capabilities.
