Portable analog circuit design kit

17 October 2012 Test & Measurement

Analog Discovery, a co-development of Digilent and Analog Devices, allows designers to turn their PC into a powerful circuit learning platform that can measure, visualise, analyse, record and control mixed-signal circuits.

The device is small enough to fit in a pocket but it is powerful enough to replace a stack of lab equipment. Powered by a Hi-Speed USB port and the free WaveForms software, it enables building and testing of analog and digital circuits outside of the lab.

Dual-channel oscilloscope functionality provides 5 MHz analog signal bandwidth on fully differential inputs sampling at up to 100 MSps from a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter, with memory depth of up to 16 KSamples/channel. The instrument has 1 MΩ/24 pF inputs capable of accepting up to ±20 V. Functions include real-time FFTs, X-Y plots, complex math and measurements on all channels.

Operating as a dual-channel function generator, Analog Discovery offers single-ended outputs at up to 100 MSps from a 14-bit digital-to-analog converter with up to 16 KSamples/channel memory. It generates arbitrary and pre-defined waves up to ±5 V, providing sweeps, envelopes, AM and FM modulation. A Bode plot feature uses standard, Nyquist and Nichols coordinates. The device can drive 50 Ω from its outputs.

16 digital I/O signals are available, operating at 100 MSps with 4 KSamples/ channel memory depth. Any signal can be input (logic analyser) or output (pattern generator or virtual I/O). The instrument supports cross-triggers with scope channels.
