Last year, Samtec introduced the Solutionator Flex Stacking tool, an online connector search tool that provides the mated connector set that meets the user’s desired connector board stacking design requirements.
The functionality this provided eliminated the hassle commonly faced with other connector search tools which commonly lead to just one connector, requiring the user to still find the other half of the mated set and also figure out the stack height of the mating connector system.
In response to feedback from designers who appreciated the Flex Stack Solutionator’s simplicity and breadth of solutions, Samtec has expanded the concept to high-speed board-to-board connectors. Providing a mated connector set for high-speed board stacking applications, the new High-Speed Board-to-Board Solutionator (www.dataweek.co.za/*feb22-samtec) delivers complete part numbers of the two mated high-speed connectors that meet the design specifications.
By specifying one or more of the following attributes, the program shows a list of mated connected sets that meet the design criteria:
• Connector type – choose between an array, two-row (traditional ‘mezzanine’), edge card or backplane.
• Orientation – parallel (traditional ‘sandwich’ style board-to-board), perpendicular (right-angle, or 90°) or coplanar (horizontal, or 180°).
• Pitch or connector centreline – if unsure, several pitches can be selected.
• Number of positions – the offering is dependent on the connector type and orientation previously selected. This way the user will only see the pin counts available for the connector sets that match their previously selected criteria.
• Stack height – again, the choices available are dependent on the previously selected design criteria.
Completing as many search attributes as possible and being as specific as possible helps the Solutionator to more quickly identify the best solution.
