Lidar sensors for numerous use cases

25 August 2021 Opto-Electronics

Mouser Electronics has signed a global distribution agreement with LightWare LiDAR, a manufacturer of light detection and ranging (lidar) technology. According to the agreement, Mouser will offer customers LightWare’s range of microLiDAR sensors for use on unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and robotics and in Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The LightWare SF30 microLiDAR sensors are designed for long-distance, high-speed lidar applications and are capable of taking up to 20 000 readings per second. The sensors feature a 5,5 V maximum voltage rating, with the SF30/B capable of measuring up to 50 metres, the SF30/C up to 100 metres and the SF30/D up to 200 metres. This suite of lasers can take measurements from both moving ground and aerial vehicles, using the lidar time-of-flight (ToF) principle to make fast and accurate measurements of both distance and speed.

The ultra-small SF000/B microLiDAR can take up to 388 readings per second and is capable of measuring up to 50 metres. Weighing only 8 grams, this sensor is ideal for lidar applications where space and weight are constrained. The SF000/B rangefinder offers multiple hardware interfaces to connect with different types of controllers, including the PX4 and Ardupilot. The device is effective in all weather conditions, even in direct sunlight. Lidar is effective at night as it is its own light source.

The LW20 sensor also uses the lidar ToF principle to accurately measure distances to objects; it is effective in all weather conditions including direct sunlight and features an IP67-rated housing enclosure. The LW20 is resistant to dust and water and is designed to measure both height and distance.

LightWare’s SF11/C microLiDAR sensor is designed for use with fixed-wing and motor aircraft, making it a suitable choice for precision hovering, terrain following and automated landings. The device features a range of 0,2 to 120 metres for measuring targets and is capable of taking up to 20 readings per second.
