Advanced analog multiphase power management solution

Intersil has revealed what it claims is the world's most advanced analog multiphase power solution for next-generation Intel and AMD microprocessors. The new Endura ISL6557 is a 2 to 4-phase 5 bit VID (Voltage IDentification code) pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller which, combined with Intersil's HIP660XA series MOSFET drivers, provides designers with an efficient, safe and cost-effective advanced core power solution.

Since processor core voltage is actually changed on-the-fly depending on processing needs, the ISL6557 multiphase PWM controller is specifically designed for precise and dynamic voltage change capability. These voltage changes must be carefully controlled (not sudden or extreme) to avoid potentially harmful surges and over-voltage conditions. The controller is designed to safely transition the voltage from one level to another in 25 mV steps, avoiding current surging. At all times, voltage precision is maintained using its differential remote voltage sensing capability.

The ISL6557 is offerred in 24-lead SOIC package.
