Tektronix partners with China's research institute to enable GPRS deployment

27 February 2002 News

Tektronix, and China's Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission (RITT), have announced a partnership to develop a Conformance Test Suite for General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks. RITT is a subsidiary of China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) responsible for drafting specifications and approving test equipment for the telecommunications industry in China.

In China and around the world, GPRS networks are quickly being accepted as a profitable approach on the path to third-generation (3G) services. As an example, China Mobile plans to rollout commercial GPRS services in 25 provinces over the next few months. RITT is responsible for specifying test equipment for these networks and has chosen Tektronix' K1297 protocol tester as the best solution for this increasingly demanding market.

Based on RITT's choice to standardise on Tektronix' protocol testers for all GPRS component manufacturers in China, RITT and Tektronix will co-develop a Conformance Test Suite based on the K1297 platform.

"By partnering with industry leaders such as China's RITT, Tektronix is paving the way for the next-generation, wireless migration from 2G to 3G," said Johannes Schaedel, Vice President, Mobile Business Unit, Tektronix. "With Tektronix' experience and leadership in protocol test solutions, RITT can benefit from a full-featured, compact platform that can be configured for a wide range of protocols.
