Analog Devices has revealed a series of DashDSP digital signal processors for motor control applications. The ADMCF34x series features enhanced motor current sensing integration that enables a 30% reduction in system component count and control bill of materials cost. These devices are the first embedded DSP controllers to offer this high level of mixed-signal integration for motor current sensing, according to ADI.
"With the introduction of our new ADMCF34x series, ADI's DashDSP family continues to provide appliance and industrial manufacturers with the highest levels of IC integration which translates into significant system cost savings while delivering best-in-class performance," said Dr Finbarr Moynihan, product line manager, Motor Control Solutions, Analog Devices. "In addition, these embedded DSP solutions provide the system designer with a great deal of flexibility as manufacturers can now easily make system improvements in software without the need to modify existing hardware."
ADI's ADMCF34x family features an enhanced analog front end that integrates bipolar current sense amplifiers with programmable sample-and-hold capability for simultaneous sampling of up to three channels. The ADMCF340 and ADMCF341 are offered in flash memory versions and pin-compatible lower-cost ROM versions that can be used for high volume mass production. All ADMCF34x products are code compatible with the ADMCF32x DashDSPs and ADI's entire family of general purpose ADSP-21xx 16-bit, fixed-point DSPs. On-chip motor control peripherals are optimised for sensorless or sensor control of multiphase motors and include: a three-phase PWM generation unit, dual auxiliary PWM timer outputs and serial ports with SPI support.
The ADMCF340 features 13 analog channels, including three current sense inputs, and 25 digital I/O channels for use with permanent magnet brushless DC, AC induction, permanent magnet synchronous and switched reluctance motors. The ADMCF341 is a 28-lead SOIC product with six analog channels, including three current sense inputs, three voltage inputs and nine digital I/O channels targeted at permanent magnet brushless, permanent magnet synchronous and AC induction motors.
