Wire-to-board connectors for power supplies

10 August 2016 Interconnection

Hirose has introduced the DF33C series to meet the requirement for compact wire-to-board connectors with advanced reliability for internal power supplies. The connector range consists of crimp sockets and vertical headers in single- or double-row format. Up to 5 A current rating can be applied.

The crimp socket housing utilises a two-point spring contact structure that stabilises the connection. The two contact points stop the contact from oscillating under excessive vibration that can lead to fretting corrosion. In addition, part of the barrel section of the crimp is designed to remain open to further restrict movement and provide high contact reliability, secure connection and strong resistance against vibration.

The robust lock provides a positive, clear tactile click when mated. This prevents incomplete mating and confirms the connector is fully engaged, guaranteeing complete electrical and mechanical connection. The lock is centred to avoid uneven locking and cable entanglement and allow multiple connectors to be mounted side by side. Separate contact retainers are available to prevent incomplete contact installation and increase the retention force for applications where excessive pull forces may be applied to the cable.

Keying variations are available to prevent incorrect insertion of the mating connector when multiple connectors are used. Built-in guide posts ensure accurate connector positioning and orientation on the board. The connectors can accept resin sealing up to 6,5 mm high from the board surface to resist against dust and moisture penetration.

A wide range of applications are relevant for these connectors, such as industrial controllers, industrial robots, medical devices, smart meters, IT home appliances, LED lighting, amusement devices, office equipment and many others.
