Air conditioning is a major issue in the commercial vehicle industry, and the demand for especially designed fans in this segment is on the rise. In order to meet this demand, ebm-papst recently introduced a complete selection of axial and double centrifugal fans in GreenTech EC technology, ebm-papst customers can now choose between a Basic and a Premium solution. With the Basic model, extras were left out on purpose, but without sacrificing reliability. If more functions and select features are desired, then the customer can select the three-phase Premium model, which was especially developed for the high-end commercial vehicle segment.
Integrated electronics enable all ebm-papst fans to be controlled efficiently. In addition, the brushless motors have a soft start function that prevents current spikes when switching the fan on, so that the electrical system is never overloaded at any one time. The EMC provisions required in the bus segment are not a problem either. For the Basic axial fan, a guard grille is also an optional feature that can be integrated without additions – in other words, without taking up extra installation space.
Basic or Premium fans are based on tried and trusted brushless DC motors that are optimised for the typical air flow in commercial vehicles and buses. Both models also come equipped with a locked-rotor protection as a standard feature. The Premium fans additionally offer different derating functions, which adjust the fan’s power consumption to environmental conditions. Moreover, the Premium model meets the requirements for degree of protection IP 6K9K and even withstands the force of a high-pressure cleaner.
To complete the programme, ebm-papst unveiled the newest version of axial fans with airflow direction ‘A’ (intake over the stator), which represents a compact and powerful alternative to airflow direction ‘V’ (intake over the rotor). This means that the company will also meet special customer requirements for air conditioner configurations that demand a different fan airflow direction.
