At the end of a long lease period in a commercial office park in Faerie Glen, Measuring Instruments Technology (MIT) has moved to new premises on the CSIR campus inﾠPretoria.

While the company is excited at the prospect and advantages of being in the vicinity of other technology related companies, interested parties are urged to take note of the new telephone number as listed below.

While many readers of Dataweek are missing the specialist technical articles authored by the late Dr Maurice McDowell, who was the managing director of MIT, the company itself is still going strong and is now managed and led by Margie Hengstberger, who was one of the founders of the company. David Horne, a WITS scientist, joined MIT in 2008 from the specialist company MicroDyne; he now heads up the technical sales team.

MIT continues to network with international scientific organisations such as the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) seated in Vienna and the CCPR in Paris (Consultative Committee on Photometry and Radiometry) as well as local specialists and organisations. The company was also a consortium member in an incubation R&D project with the TIA (Technology Innovation Agency). In addition, the company is working towards improving its BEE rating to Level 1 next year.

MIT deals in specialist and leading edge equipment in the scientific, military and industrial sectors. Its core products are well established lines such as Goldilux (an entirely South African light measurement instrument line), Labsphere, PhotoResearch, Andor Technology and Vision Research. The company also recently won the agencies for PI (nano-positioning products) and CI-Systems (black body radiators).
