Tyco Electronics recently introduced a new family of PolySwitch circuit protection devices for use in various types of general electronic products. The new RKEF family offers similar functionality to the existing RXEF devices, but in a 30% smaller package.
Key device parameters for the RKEF family include hold-current ratings of 0,5 to 5,0 A coupled with trip-current ratings of 1 to 10 A. All the devices have a maximum operating voltage rating of 60 V and can operate up to 85°C. The resettable devices are of through-hole construction. Many of the radial-leaded RKEF devices have the same lead spacing as the RXEF devices, but in a smaller package. This allows designers to easily swap the new RKEF devices into designs, yielding more space for other components or for improved thermal conditions. Lead spacing for two of the RKEF devices – the RKEF250 and the RKEF300 – is 50% less than the equivalent RXEF parts, yielding even more space saving. The devices are EU RoHS and ELV compliant.
