Versatile wireless M2M module is also EDGE capable

23 August 2006 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The module expands Motorola's portfolio of GSM, iDEN and CDMA modules for the M2M market. M2M is a term widely used to describe the machine-to-machine, man-to-machine and machine-to-man communications markets.

Wireless modules enable the transfer of information and commands between automobiles, meters, vending machines, handheld devices and other machines in a potentially endless range of applications. Motorola wireless modules are used around the world in a wide range of industries, including automotive, telemetry, security and EPOS (electronic point of sale).

"We are proud to leverage Motorola's seamless mobility vision and technological expertise to advance the M2M market," said Aviad Gefen, manager of Motorola's wireless module unit. "The G24 is the most versatile product in our portfolio. It enables our customers to choose multiple configurations, such as EDGE today and JAVA, voice recognition, and Bluetooth SAP in the future. The module is, in essence, a flexible platform that enables our customers to develop cost-effective custom-made solutions."

The product's ruggedness and small size allow it to work in a wide range of environments. According to the company, the module boasts exceptional RX sensitivity - 4 dBm better than standard - enabling stable connectivity even in locations with low coverage for applications such as home security systems installed in basements.

Motorola also offers a proprietary developer kit that enables resellers and manufacturers of electronic equipment to rapidly prototype and develop applications and services with a relatively short time-to-market. The G24 is compatible with the company's previous G20, enabling upgrading to the next generation.
