Digi International will soon be offering support for the Microsoft .NET Micro Framework on its line of wired and wireless embedded modules. The .NET Micro Framework extends the reach of Microsoft's embedded solutions to integrated device platforms with smaller memory footprints. According to Digi International, its network-enabled embedded modules are the ideal platform for a wide variety of .NET Micro Framework-based applications such as retail price verification systems, blood glucose meters, remote power management and environmental monitoring.
"Microsoft's .NET Micro Framework is ideally suited for the creation of the smallest of devices and is complementary to the existing embedded platforms that Microsoft offers," said Eric Lang, general manager of the SPOT (smart personal objects technology) Group, Microsoft. "In combination with Digi's embedded modules, .NET Micro Framework brings ease of development to a class of network-connected devices previously not supported by Microsoft's embedded solutions."
"The addition of .NET Micro Framework for our embedded modules builds on the strong foundation of our existing support for Microsoft Windows CE embedded technology by extending Microsoft Windows embedded platforms across Digi's complete ARM-based embedded module offering," said Larry Kraft, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Digi International. "This enables more customers to easily build security-enhanced commercial grade device networking solutions in key vertical markets, including medical, retail, and industrial automation."
Initial support will be available for the Digi Connect ME, Digi Connect Wi-ME and ConnectCore 7U.
