Evaluation toolkits speed up microcontroller code development and reduce time to market

12 July 2006 DSP, Micros & Memory

Renesas Technology Europe has released a series of budget starter kits (RSKs) to help users to speed up code development and reduce their project's time to market. The RSKs offer a user-friendly platform for assessing the suitability of a chosen Renesas microcontroller as well as a basic development platform. Each kit includes a CPU board with target microcontroller, LCD panel, E8 on-chip debugger, trial C compiler and IDE, tutorial session and peripheral driver code.

The RSKs allow engineers to evaluate devices from the company's range of controller products via a consistent hardware/software platform. Kits also incorporate a common 'application' bus allowing interfacing to peripherals and daughter cards. They are available for the complete range of 8/16/32-bit solutions including the R8C, M16C-Tiny, M32C, H8-SLP and SH controllers.

As well as allowing evaluation and fast development, the RSKs also provide a useful platform for evaluating Renesas' suite of development tools for coding and debugging, using high-performance embedded workshop (HEW), the E8 emulator, and/or Flash Development Toolkit. RSKs enable the user to generate and run code 'straight out of the box'. They connect to a host PC via an included USB E8 on-chip debugging interface. The E8 provides a compact, smart debugging environment package that allows the user to perform complete system debug, from MCU operations to electrical characteristics.
