Programmable liquid crystal display buttons with multicolour backlighting

15 August 2001 Switches, Relays & Keypads

LC Trend ScreenKeys has combined a fully programmable, graphic liquid crystal display (LCD) with multicolour backlighting in a programmable pushbutton switch. An integrated ASIC controls the LCD display as well as the backlighting. No external display controller is required. The LC16 and LC24 Trend ScreenKeys need only four contacts for power, ground, clock and data lines plus two switch contacts.

They have a resolution of 32 x 16 (LC16) or 36 x 24 (LC24) pixels and display allows for 1, 2 or 3 lines of text, graphics or even animation. Four pairs of red and green LEDs can be individually controlled to create 8 different background colours.

ScreenKey switches and displays are widely used in audio and video equipment, point of sale keyboards and keypads, industrial and military control panels, and telecommunication devices.
