RF narrow-band wireless solution for data capture

The STAR-System from Datalogic is a wide range of wireless data capture devices for industrial and business environments that takes advantage of RF narrow-band technology. Many processes in the distribution and retail as well as the manufacturing industries (such as inventory, picking, shipping/receiving, etc,) require data collection operations to supply or receive information to/from their ERP/WMS system.

This data should be provided to the information system automatically and in realtime to assure the best accuracy, precision and efficiency.

The STAR-System takes advantage of the advanced Datalogic automatic data capture devices to provide an RF narrow band solution that features total mobility, realtime communication and is said to be affordable compared to wired applications. Free from cable constraint and entanglement, the company says that many time-consuming activities can now be executed quickly and directly on field, exploiting the distinctive features of pocket-sized pen shaped and handheld wireless terminals, as well as gun-shaped mobile devices, to read linear and PDF stacked codes and offer instinctive and distance reading.

The realtime communication and data collection operations performed by the wide range of different RF devices is fast. The client-server architecture, in which each operation is driven by the RF device (client), combined with the CSMA/CA (carrier sensing multiple access/collision avoidance) access protocol type, boost overall performance.

The system conforms with the European ETSI standard EN300 220-3 and does not require any operating licence. With its industrial features, it offers both RS232 and Wedge connections. By means of the Stargate product, it is possible to take advantage of both the standalone and network solutions and easily exchange data with any Windows-based application.
